chocolate chip mocha milkshake!

sometimes, i’m in the mood for coffee.

now, when i say coffee… i mean cream and sugar with some dark stuff in it, thank you. 😉

although i do like hot coffee this time of year, i get in the mood for a thick milkshake with my favorite winter flavors.

enter the chocolate chip mocha milkshake!

just to make sure i give credit where credit is due, i got the “base” idea for this recipe from gwen’s thin mint chocolate chip milkshake over at gwen’s nest.  for those of you are are familiar with THM (a healthy-carb, healthy-fat, protein-balanced lifestyle), you will find a lot of great recipes there.  (for those of you who aren’t familiar with THM, you will be able to find more information about them on their page on facebook– but of course, the best way to learn about the lifestyle would be through their book.  they have both hard copy and an ebook.  look for links below…)

anyhoo, after trying the mint milkshake, i knew that it could be used to springboard many other flavors.  now, for those of you who hate cottage cheese (that would be me), i originally was put off by any recipes of THM that used that as a base.  however, please let me assure you, that as soon as it is combined with other ingredients and the texture of the cottage cheese is blended smooth, it take on another whole identity.  TRUST ME.

so, without further adieu, here is the recipe:

chocolate chip mocha milkshake

  • 1/4 cup cottage cheese
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tbs 1/2 and 1/2
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1 cup ice
  • splash of vanilla extract
  • stevia extract to taste (i used 2 shakes of 3 small holes on my KAL stevia extract dispenser.  for those who prefer using truvia or xylitol [or sugar, for that matter], you will need more than just a couple of shakes… 😉 )
  • coffee extract to taste
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/4 of an ounce of 85% dark chocolate, roughly chopped before blending

blend well!

you’ll notice that the base is cut in half from gwen’s recipe… i just find that half of a shake is enough for me, especially if it is in between or after a meal.  but feel free to double the recipe if you want a larger size or want to split it with someone. :)
